Pat McGrath playtime! I don’t get to play with makeup very often these days, let alone blog about it! I have a very neglected collection of Pat McGrath products which I desperately had to use. There are more in my collection but I think I managed to get a decent selection on my face this time around!
I’m really liking this grey hair trend at the moment. Why wait until I’m going naturally grey when I can have it now? The question is, how does this work with non-elderly skin without making it look washed out?
The answer has been showcased by several celebrities – bold and bright lips! Mirina Diamandis wears her grey hair with bright orange or Barbie pink lips (two colours I love) and Lady Gaga wore hers with dark blue glitter lips which is clearly not for the faint-hearted.
I love bright lips so here are the colours I think will go best with grey hair:
Orange – opposites attract!
Pastel blue – it’s only a few shades away from grey – take inspiration from Jourdan Dunn
Pastel pink and purple – I can imagine a grey/pastel pink ombre for lips and hair!
Barbie pink – because it’s fun.
Bold purple – grey and purple make a gorgeous combination
Hot Pink – hot pink and grey is just, well, hot!
And of course, grey hair looks great with red lips which works for all ages. It will go with all of my shades of red because they are all so bright but I’ve picked out MUA shade 13 for a red crème and Rimmel Apocalips Lips Velvet in Burning Lava for a matte finish:
Will you be rocking grey hair with bright lips this summer?
After creating my Givenchy face, I had to add a pop of colour using the gorgeous Color Kajal in shade 3, which is a limited edition shade from the Givenchy Beauty Spring Summer Collection. I simply drew it onto my waterline and lower lashline directly from the pencil.
I was wearing Givenchy Le Rouge Lipstick in 202 Rose Dressing which comes up quite bright on me so I toned it down by patting it with my fingers so it wasn’t so bold. I was left with more natural looking, not-so-done pink lips. I did this so the eyes were not in competition with my lips.
I bought the Rimmel Apocalips in Galaxy because Celestial was too pink for me. Apocalips is very easy to apply thanks to the plush, angled applicator. It feels so smooth and soft and effortlessly follows the contours of the lips.
This shade is perfect for me as it is a subtle purple. I find that purples suit me the best although I love pink. I think it because it is the perfect combination of the dark outline of my lips with the pink in the rest of my lips. For some reason this reminds me of black cherry flavoured yoghurt!
The gloss is not sticky and has a nice shine due to the almost microscopic shimmer particles. It fades nicely rather than making my lips look silly and it lasts for a good amount of time before needing retouching.
I’m sure I’ll try out more shades and I really want to try one of the new Apocalips Lip Velvets.
I got this Barry M Nail Paint in Tinsel free at Christmas with the purchase of two other Barry M nail polishes. I thought it would make the perfect Christmas top coat for the burgundy Shellac manicure I had at the time. I think it was supposed to be limited edition but I actually saw this in Boots a little while ago so you might still be able to get one!
This is a quick post just to show you what the Barry M Limited Edition “tinsel” polish looks like without a colour underneath. You can really see the dark pink-red, blue-purple and green tinsel pieces. As much as a tried, I couldn’t get the tinsel to cover the whole nail with gaps so if you don’t like to see bare nail, you’ll need another colour underneath. I’ve tried it with burgundy here and navy blue here. I prefer it over blue. Which is your favourite? Which colours have you tried this with? I’d love to see!
There is just something about No7 nail colour in Betty Blues that I love. Maybe it’s the depth of colour which makes me feel like I’m looking at stars far across the galaxy, or maybe it’s so dark it wants to be black but mysteriously stops short. I don’t know! You can see it on its own here. I think the red, purple and green tones in the Barry M Tinsel nail paint topcoat go well with this colour. Tinsel is not just for Christmas! What do you think?
