I wanted to try the matte pink eye trend as seen on Jourdan Dunn but I don’t have any matte pink eyeshadows! I could have used blusher I guess. Maybe I’ll try that next as I have a really pretty pink blush from Bobbi Brown.

If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen a couple of pictures of my face and my outfit which inspired the make-up.

This is what I used:

Face

  • Bare Minerals foundation in Golden Tan W30 applied with my Bare Minerals Flawless Face brush
  • Sleek Contour Kit in Medium 885 applied with my Models Own Angled Blush Brush

Eyes

  • Clinique All About Eyes Concealer in Deep Honey 08 applied and blended with my fingers
  • Kiko Makeup Milano Eye Base eyeshadow primer applied to my eyelids with my fingers
  • Maybelline Color Tattoo cream eyeshadow in Pink Gold applied all over my eyelids up to the brows using a cream blending brush (not pictured)
  • Max Factor Max Effect Dip-In Eyeshadow in Posh Pink 03 applied using the applicator to my eyelids only and blended with my Ruby & Millie Eye Brush
  • MAC Swiss Chocolate matte eyeshadow applied under the brow bone using my Ruby & Millie Eye Brush.
  • Maybelline the Colossal Volum’ Express Cat Eyes Mascara in Wild Black
  • Soap & Glory Smoulder Khol waterproof eyeliner in Superblack on the waterline
  • Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Mahogany 10 to define my eyebrows using my Bare Minerals Angled Liner brush

Lips

  • E.l.f. Studio Matte Lip Color in Praline

I wanted to keep a bright and fresh spring look so I didn’t use topliner or blend the brown eyeshadow out to make it smoky eye.

Review: MUA Red Lipstick in Shade 13

MUA Red Lipstick in Shade 13 back together again!
MUA Red Lipstick in Shade 13 back together again!

I’ve been desperate to try one of these infamous £1 lipsticks since December last but it took a while for Superdrug to begin to restock the MUA shelves.

I went for Shade 13 because try as I might, I struggle with matte as it is so drying. I’m into my glosses and I have only just started trying mattes since starting this blog.

This is a true creamy red. I actually love this £1 gem! It glides on easily and has good staying power. It stays put and does not bleed so there’s no need for lip liner. It produces the bold colour I want with minimal effort and it actually brightened my mood when I wore it! It perfectly suits my skin tone and is not drying in the slightest.

Thanks to Beauty in Beta I now know that the coloured part at the bottom comes off so I can use a lip brush to apply colour without messing up the bullet.

This is my new favourite red!

I wore this look to go with a dark blue, black and grey sports luxe look inspired by my Peter Pilotto for Target trousers. There’s a lot of make-up here!

Base:
Clinique All About Eyes Concealer in Deep Honey 08 applied with my fingers under my eyes
MAC Prep + Prime Face Protect Primer on my nose applied with my No7 foundation brush in an attempt to deal with the shine
Yves Saint Laurent/YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat foundation in B70 applied with my No7 foundation brush because I wanted to glow
Kiko Make Up Milano Eye Base eye primer applied with my fingers to my eyelids

Eyes:
This was the fun part! I needed to wear my glasses so I needed enough drama to show through my thick frames but I also didn’t have time to do something like Dark Romance in blue which is what I would have preferred.

MAC eyeshadow in Expensive Pink applied with my e.l.f. Eyeshadow “C” brush all over my lids and up to the eyebrows for a golden pink shimmery base and to act as a highlight.
MAC eyeshadow in Embark, a matte dark brown in the crease and the outer corners of my lids applied and blended with my Real Techniques duo-fiber eye brush.
Maybelline Color Tattoo Gel-Cream eyeshadow in 25 Everlasting Navy all over my lids applied with my Models Own shading brush
Soap & Glory Smoulder Khol waterproof eyeliner in Blue My Mind, a dark navy blue on the waterline and lower lashline.
Benefit They’re Real mascara on the top and bottom lashes
Anastasia Beverley Hills Brow Fix to shape my brows followed by…
Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in mahogany 10 applied with the angled brush on my BellaPierre dual brush

Lips:

Face
Sleek Face Contour Kit in Medium 885 – using my Real Techniques duo fiber contour brush I contoured the shadows using the dark colour on my temples, the hollows of my cheeks, the outer edge of my jawline and the sides of my nose. Using the same brush I added the highlight on my cheekbones with a light swipe down the middle of my nose and forehead. I blended the colours with my Models Own angled blush brush.
To finish – a very light dusting of Bobbi Brown Illuminating Finish Powder Compact Foundation SPF12 in Golden 6 applied with my Real Techniques duo-fiber face brush to set my make-up and soak up excess shine (but not too much because I wanted that glow!).

Review: Soap & Glory Crazy Sexy Kohl Eyeshadows

Aubersheen, Smokin' and Dandy Plum

This is the second part of my review of the Soap & Glory Crazy Sexy Kohl set I got in the December sales although I think you can still get the shades separately. The tin contained waterproof eyeliners and three eyeshadows. The shimmery taupe, the shimmery grape and shimmer black colours lend themselves towards a smoky eye so I gave it a go. The colours are Aubersheen, Smokin’ and Dandy Plum but apart from the plum, I don’t know which colour is which. I used three colours and five brushes, excluding the base and brows!
For the base I used Kiko Makeup Milano Infinity eyeshadow in 204, a matte sand colour applied with my e.l.f. studio eyeshadow “C” brush all over my lids up to my brows. I then used the same brush to cover the same area with the shimmery taupe colour as I think it makes a great shimmery base and a highlight on my skin tone. Then using my Real Techniques Duo Fiber Eye Brush, I applied the plum colour to the crease and the socket bone, gradually building up the colour and blending as I went along. I used MAC brush 293 (a rounded square edge) to apply a little of the shimmery black to the outer edge of the crease and lid. I lined the top lashline using the same colour and my Ruby & Millie angled eye brush. I then blended the black using my No7 Eyeshadow Blend and Contour Brush. I touched up the taupe colour on the lid and the plum colour in the inner crease.

I finished with Oriflame Wonderlash Mascara on the top and bottom lashes, Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Mahogany for my brows using the angled liner on my Bella Pierre Dual brush and Clinique All About Eyes Concealer in Deep Honey 08.

I actually ended up with shimmer all over my face but I’m not sure if this is due to the eyeshadow or my (poor) technique! The colours need to be built up as they deposit a very subtle amount of colour. Great if you’re heavy handed like me! I think the plum is incredibly pretty and the colours together make a nice alternative to a grey or black smoky eye. You could even wear this in the daytime.
I looked on the Soap and Glory website to see if their Lid Stuff range had the colours I used. From the pictures, it looks like you can get the shimmery black in the Smokey Dokey palette and the plum in the Off The Wall Flowers Palette. As for the taupe, I can’t quite tell if it is in the Off The Wall Flowers Palette or What’s Nude. Do any of you know?

I simply HAD to buy the new Sleek Garden of Eden 447 i-Divine eyeshadow palette.  It is an irresistibly pretty spring palette of mauve and green.  I have a real weakness for Sleek palettes due to the quality and price. I haven’t bought a new palette for ages so it was about time I updated my collection.

Once in the Sleek area, I had to go and test everything! I also ended up buying blush in Flushed 935, justified by the fact I don’t have a red blusher. I also bought Blush by 3 Blush Palette in Lace 367 which has a coral theme.  There is a dark peach matte blush, a shimmery golden pink and an almost neon orange-toned pink matte blusher. To me, this is a great spring into summer palette.  We’ll have to see!

Latest in Beauty offer a great beauty box service. Rather than having to commit to a subscription, I can choose which boxes I want or make my own bespoke box. This is great for me – I can see what’s in the box before I buy it so I know that I will like something, then the rest of the contents are bonuses.

This time around, the choice was between the Glamour Edit and the Winter Collection.  The main reason I get beauty boxes is to try out brands and products which are not easily available on the high street. Most of the Glamour Edit had brands which are easily accessible in my opinion, and it had a couple of things I simply didn’t want,  so I went for the Winter Collection!  I’ll post my initial thoughts on the skincare on my skincare blog shortly but make-up wise, I received:

Green People Anti-Age eyeliner in grey – I wanted this pencil not for the anti-age properties, but because I love a good grey eyeliner! It makes a nice alternative to black which sometimes feels too much, especially in the day.  Green People is a new brand for me and all the ingredients are organic, so I’m looking forward to trying this.

Lola matte long lasting lipstick in Minx 105.  Again, this is a new brand for me and since I’ve been blogging, I’ve been trying more and more matte lipsticks.  This is simply another one for me to try!

Oriflame Wonderlash mascara in black.  I was running out of mascara and thought I might as well try this one, again, a brand which is new to me.

Did you get this box?  What do you think of the make-up?

Review: Bronzers in Shade 1 and Shade 3

Bronzers in Shade 1 and Shade 3
Bronzers in Shade 1 and Shade 3

These bronzers were only £1 so I had to give them a try!

I initially bought Shade 3 as this was the darkest in Superdrug.  I wanted a matte bronzer because my Seventeen bronzer is very shimmery.  Shade 3 actually ended up very dark on me so I use it to contour rather than bronze.

I figured that if I bought a lighter shade, I could highlight with it so I went back and bought Shade 1.  Shade 2 was out of stock otherwise I might have bought that too.

Shade 1 has some rather large shimmer pieces in it so rather than create a highlighting glow, it deposited glitter on to my face! My theory was incorrect but it was worth trying for £1.

Overall, I’m really pleased with Shade 3 – it’s great for the contour shadow and I’m sure I’ll still be able to use it when I get my summer tan.  I’m not sure about Shade 1 – those glitter pieces are strange!

Review: Sleek Lip 4 Lipstick Palette in Siren 859

Review: Sleek Lip 4 Lipstick Palette in Siren 859
Review: Sleek Lip 4 Lipstick Palette in Siren 859

I bought this Sleek Lipstick Palette in Siren 859 palette as this was literally the only place I could find a (semi) suitable orange colour for the price I was willing to pay.  You’ve seen me use this palette before in my Christmas Collection.

I think this palette is a good Valentine’s collection.  The Sleek website even suggests this is the one if you have a hot date! The theme is orange, so all the lip colours have an orange tinge and it has a peach, a pink, and orange and a red.  I’ve tested them all out here:

Peach

Review: Sleek Lip 4 Lipstick Palette in Siren 859

This one is not for me! It’s too pale for my skin tone.  It is a very bright satin peach which I have to say, I struggled to apply.  I needed to line the outline of my lips with a nude pencil so the colour had something to grip on to.  I then applied one layer with my Ruby & Millie lip brush as the included brush is far too tiny for me, blotted, then applied another layer.  It took ages! I will need to use this colour mixed with another, which I guess is the fun of palettes.

Orange

This is a matte colour which is ok for me.  It acts like a stain rather than an opaque lip colour (which I would have preferred) but this way it is more wearable on a daily basis. I applied this with my Models Own lip brush, dabbing it on until I achieved the desired colour.  I used this in my Chocolate, Orange, Cinnamon & Nutmeg and Chocolate Orange Lips looks.

Pink

Wow! This came out neon!  A neon orange-pink!  This is very bright but I love it – a real statement colour.  I this this is really pretty and perfect for Valentine’s day.  This is another satin colour and I applied this with my Ruby & Millie lip brush.  This left my lips stained so be warned!

Red

This is another statement colour.  This is an orange-red gloss which simply screams “look at me”.  Another great Valentine’s colour.  I used this for my Sultry Siren Santa look.  This was the easiest to apply, especially using the lip brush end of my Bella Pierre Dual brush.

For Valentine’s day I currently can’t choose my favourite. Maybe the pink?

The best thing about Sleek as a brand is the palettes.  There’s so much choice in a little package at a really good price.  Here, I can wear 3 out of 4 without mixing the colours which is pretty good! I’ve already got my eye on a few more palettes.
