My Kiko Milano Wanderlust Collection and why I almost didn’t buy anything

The gorgeous Kiko Wanderlust Limited Edition Collection packaging
The gorgeous Kiko Wanderlust Limited Edition Collection packaging

The moment I saw the Kiko Milano Wanderlust collection I knew I had to have it!

Not just because the textured package is in a luxurious golden hue. Or that it was designed by Robert Lovegrove. Or that’s it’s limited edition which always make my heart leap. It’s mainly because I knew that I would be purchasing amazing quality make-up for a very reasonable price. That’s what I love about Kiko.

Grey Hair Needs Bright Lips

Multi-coloured
Multi-coloured

I’m really liking this grey hair trend at the moment. Why wait until I’m going naturally grey when I can have it now? The question is, how does this work with non-elderly skin without making it look washed out?

The answer has been showcased by several celebrities – bold and bright lips! Mirina Diamandis wears her grey hair with bright orange or Barbie pink lips (two colours I love) and Lady Gaga wore hers with dark blue glitter lips which is clearly not for the faint-hearted.

I love bright lips so here are the colours I think will go best with grey hair:

Orange – opposites attract!

Orange
Illamasqua Flare & MAC Morange

Pastel blue – it’s only a few shades away from grey – take inspiration from Jourdan Dunn

Blue
Makeup Revolution Immoral

Pastel pink and purple – I can imagine a grey/pastel pink ombre for lips and hair!

Lilac
MUA matte lipstick in Lilac Belle and Makeup Revolution lipsticks in Enchant and Depraved

Barbie pink – because it’s fun.

Pink
L’Oreal Color Riche Lipstick in 370

Bold purple – grey and purple make a gorgeous combination

Purple
Makeup Revolution Atomic Lipsticks on Make It Right and Make Me Magnificent

Hot Pink – hot pink and grey is just, well, hot!

Hot Pink
Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet lip colours in 06 Pink Pong and 05 Ole Flamingo and Makeup Revolution lipsticks in Dazzle and Crime

And of course, grey hair looks great with red lips which works for all ages. It will go with all of my shades of red because they are all so bright but I’ve picked out MUA shade 13 for a red crème and Rimmel Apocalips Lips Velvet in Burning Lava for a matte finish:

Will you be rocking grey hair with bright lips this summer?

Clinique Pop Lip and the #LipPic

Clinique Pop Goodies!
Clinique Pop Goodies!

Clinique has a new range of lip colours called Clinique Pop.  I have used the Clinique long last lipsticks in the past and I really liked them so I was looking forward to this new offering.

Clinique Pop is not just a lipstick, it is a primer too.  I’m not sure about you but I don’t use primer on my lips. Am I supposed to? Anyway, it makes sense as the purpose of primer is to make sure makeup lasts longer and if my lip colour lasts longer because the lip primer is mixed in, I’m not going to complain!

To promote Clinique Pop, there was a little pop-up booth in Westfield London (Shepherd’s Bush/White City) where you could try one shade and take a photo to be entered into a competition to become the “lips of” Clinique Pop, be in an advertorial in Cosmopolitan magazine and win all 16 shades of Clinique Pop.  Naturally I could not resist!

I chose Poppy Pop, a coral shade which comes up as a bright peachy-orange on me. That’s fine by me because I love orange lipstick. I took me picture in the booth and it is definitely not a winner!

The Clinique Pop lip colours are supposed to last for 8 hours.  Mine managed to stay in place for 4 hours which included eating some mac and cheese and drinking water. The full intensity didn’t last for the four hours but there was still colour on my lips and it faded in a way which I could live with.  I would say that’s a good performance and it’s better than the long last lipsticks.  The texture is gorgeously creamy and comfortable to wear and the finish is lovely and smooth (that must be the primer working).

I would like to try (because I can’t buy) Plum pop and Grape Pop because purple just works for my skintone.  I could go for some pinks too.  You can see why I’m on an epic spending ban!

Although the Westfield pop-up is no longer there, you can still enter the competition to become the lips of Clinique Pop in Instagram. Just visit the Clinique UK Instagram page to find out more. Good luck!

Handbag Swap Lip Colours April 2015

Handbag Swap Lip Colours April 2015
Handbag Swap Lip Colours April 2015

This post is a little late but I still want to share with you my bag swap moment! I decided that my faithful Mango black patent bag was too large for purpose these days so after a lot of walking around the shops culminating with painful deliberation in Debenhams, I bought cute yellow Jasper Conran bag which I think is perfect for summer (I can only find the blue and black versions on line and I think I want the blue one too!). The purpose was to try to carry less so we’ll see if that works. When I tipped out my Mango bag this is what I found:

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in 07 Nude-ist which is currently my favourite nude

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in 05 Ole flamingo which is my current favourite out of all of my lip colours!

Bourjois Rouge Aqua Laque 07 Fuchsia Perche which I didn’t wear for very long because I just didn’t have the time to re-touch

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Velvet in Burning Lava although I’m not sure why this was in my bag because I haven’t worn it for ages

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Velvet in Orange-ology

Sleek Pout Polish in 958 The Show which is currently my favourite tinted lip balm

So you can see I am sticking with a few favourites at the moment. Let’s see how many make it into my new bag!

This Week’s Lip Colours 19.04.15 – Bourjois, Sleek, Maybelline

You might be wondering why I have ended up carrying around so many lipsticks, lip glosses, lip balms, and lip velvets for the past few weeks. Since becoming a mum, I only have time to pop on a lip colour before leaving the house. Sometimes I really don’t get even five minutes to myself to put on makeup but I don’t mind because it’s for the best reason!

After tipping out the contents of my bag, this is what I found:

  • Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Me
  • Sleek Pout Polish in Raspberry Rhapsody
  • Maybelline ColorElixir Lip Lacquer in 500 Mandarine Rapture
  • Bourjois Rouge Edition Aqua Laque in 01 Appechissant
  • Bourjois Rouge Edition Aqua Laque in 04 Viens si tu roses
  • Bourjois Rouge Edition Aqua Laque in 05 Red my lips
  • Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Don’t pink of it!

Clearly I was in a Bourjois mood this week!

No wonder my bag is so heavy!

How many lip products in a handbag is too many?
How many lip products in a handbag is too many?

I usually carry more than one lip product in my handbag but how many is too many? As a minimum I carry a lip care product such as a balm or Vaseline plus the lip colour that I’m wearing that day. I also might throw in another lip colour just in case I change my mind halfway through the day.

For the past two weeks for some reason I’ve been using a lip product, throwing it in my bag then the next day picking another lip product and chucking that in my bag. No replacement, just adding. No wonder my bag weighs a ton! As of today, I’ve ended up with:

  1. Maybelline Baby Lips Intensive Care
  2. Maybelline Baby Lips Cherry Me
  3. Maybelline Baby Lips in Pink Punch
  4. Revlon ColorBurst Lipgloss in Sizzle
  5. Rimmel Oh My Gloss! in My Eternity
  6. Rimmel Apocalips Lip Velvet in Burning Lava
  7. MAC lip pencil in Cherry to wear with Burning Lava
  8. dr.organic lip balm in Organic Moroccan Argan Oil
  9. Dr. PawPaw Orginal Balm
  10. YSL Volupte Tint-in-Oil No.8 in Pink About Me
  11. MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in Dare
  12. Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in 10 Don’t Pink of it!

Phew!
