This Week’s Lip Colours 19.04.15

This Week's Lip Colours 19.04.15 - Bourjois, Sleek, Maybelline
This Week’s Lip Colours 19.04.15 – Bourjois, Sleek, Maybelline

You might be wondering why I have ended up carrying around so many lipsticks, lip glosses, lip balms, and lip velvets for the past few weeks. Since becoming a mum, I only have time to pop on a lip colour before leaving the house. Sometimes I really don’t get even five minutes to myself to put on makeup but I don’t mind because it’s for the best reason!

After tipping out the contents of my bag, this is what I found:

  • Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Me
  • Sleek Pout Polish in Raspberry Rhapsody
  • Maybelline ColorElixir Lip Lacquer in 500 Mandarine Rapture
  • Bourjois Rouge Edition Aqua Laque in 01 Appechissant
  • Bourjois Rouge Edition Aqua Laque in 04 Viens si tu roses
  • Bourjois Rouge Edition Aqua Laque in 05 Red my lips
  • Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Don’t pink of it!

Clearly I was in a Bourjois mood this week!

No wonder my bag is so heavy!

How many lip products in a handbag is too many?
How many lip products in a handbag is too many?

I usually carry more than one lip product in my handbag but how many is too many? As a minimum I carry a lip care product such as a balm or Vaseline plus the lip colour that I’m wearing that day. I also might throw in another lip colour just in case I change my mind halfway through the day.

For the past two weeks for some reason I’ve been using a lip product, throwing it in my bag then the next day picking another lip product and chucking that in my bag. No replacement, just adding. No wonder my bag weighs a ton! As of today, I’ve ended up with:

  1. Maybelline Baby Lips Intensive Care
  2. Maybelline Baby Lips Cherry Me
  3. Maybelline Baby Lips in Pink Punch
  4. Revlon ColorBurst Lipgloss in Sizzle
  5. Rimmel Oh My Gloss! in My Eternity
  6. Rimmel Apocalips Lip Velvet in Burning Lava
  7. MAC lip pencil in Cherry to wear with Burning Lava
  8. dr.organic lip balm in Organic Moroccan Argan Oil
  9. Dr. PawPaw Orginal Balm
  10. YSL Volupte Tint-in-Oil No.8 in Pink About Me
  11. MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in Dare
  12. Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in 10 Don’t Pink of it!

Phew!

Review: Benefit Coralista Lipgloss

Coralista
Coralista

I received a mini version of Benefit Coralista in a magazine a while ago. I think beauty gifts in magazines are a great way to try out products without having to commit lots of money to a product you might not like.

I love lipgloss as it makes my lips look fuller. I only really started trying out matte lip colour when I started blogging. I usually go for lipgloss because it tends to last a long time on the lips compared to creamy lipstick so there’s fewer touch-ups. I also like lipgloss because depending on the colour, when it fades is doesn’t look to bad. The downside to lipgloss is that it can be sticky. Long hair plus windy weather plus sticky lipgloss equals complete mess!

Coralista is a sheer coral colour which gives my dark lips a very slight orange tint. The shine is subtle rather than fully glossy or glassy. It feels silky and smooth and is not sticky at all. It has a hint of a strawberry jelly taste which I like.

The downside for me is that as it is so light, it doesn’t last long on the lips at all. It fades away far too quickly for my liking which takes away a benefit of lipgloss that I like.

I have concluded that although this lipgloss is not right for me at all, it’s for all of you out there who want to wear gloss without the stickiness. It’s definitely good to have the choice!

Review: Rimmel Apocalips in Galaxy

I bought the Rimmel Apocalips in Galaxy because Celestial was too pink for me. Apocalips is very easy to apply thanks to the plush, angled applicator. It feels so smooth and soft and effortlessly follows the contours of the lips.

This shade is perfect for me as it is a subtle purple. I find that purples suit me the best although I love pink. I think it because it is the perfect combination of the dark outline of my lips with the pink in the rest of my lips. For some reason this reminds me of black cherry flavoured yoghurt!

The gloss is not sticky and has a nice shine due to the almost microscopic shimmer particles. It fades nicely rather than making my lips look silly and it lasts for a good amount of time before needing retouching.

I’m sure I’ll try out more shades and I really want to try one of the new Apocalips Lip Velvets.

Review: Revlon Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie

The Revlon Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie is not a new product but I love it and wanted to share with you how I wear it! It’s a raspberry pink lip colour with a glossy finish, without the stickiness. The colour is stronger than a gloss but not as opaque as a lipstick. I am a glossy girl and wanted a strong, glossy colour and you definitely get that here!

My favourite way to wear it is with my Barry M lip pencil in 2 a close-but-not-exact colour match in a deep pink. You can see me wearing this combination in my Fruit Salad post. It lasts longer than most glosses (except Lancôme juicy tubes!) but not as long as a lipstick when I wear it like this.

I recently tried it without the lip liner. Without, it comes up a deeper pink and a little translucent. I remembered why I use the lip liner – I can’t get a defined edge with this product and I prefer definition with bold lip colours. It’s does have fairly good staying power without liner although when it fades it looks like I’ve been kissing all my fellow shoppers which is a bit embarrassing. Incidentally, if you do decide to plant a kiss on someone they will have a very bright pink glossy lip print on them – kinda funny!

Overall, I really like this – I can’t decide if it is the colour or the formula or both – it’s just one of my favourites. If you’re looking for a bold gloss-like look, go for this Revlon Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie. I think I might have to try some more colours!

Stuff from Magazines February/March

Stuff from Magazines February/March

I received a few goodies from magazines which I think is a great way to try out products without spending a fortune and feeling like you’ve wasted money.  If you don’t like the product, at least you have the magazine! I only buy magazines I know I’ll like – there’s no point in double disappointment.

First I received a tube of Goji Berry lip gloss from Neal’s Yard Remedies. This was in Marie Claire magazine. It claims to smooth and protect and is made with organic orange oil and white tea. Sounds yummy!

Glamour Magazine was offering a selection of Model Co products (as well as 25% off in H&M) and my copy had a “Lip Enhancer Illusion Lip Liner”.  It’s a nude lip liner which claims to suit all skin tones. The box says it helps to create the perfect pout giving the illusion of naturally fuller lips. It has a sharpener in the lid which is pretty handy!

Finally, on subscribing to Elle magazine, I received three full-size Elizabeth Arden Products.  I now have a tube of 8 Hour Cream which I have used before so I’m glad I received it again.  It is a skin protectant and has a wide range of uses.  Although it is technically skincare, it’s great make-up as well. Do you remember the glossy eyelid trend? That is where you use 8 Hour Cream!  It also says you can use it to shape brows.

The actual make up came in the form of Beautiful Color Moisturizing Lipstick in Red Door Red 02 which is an amazing true red in stunning gold and silver signature red door packaging.  It’s simply too beautiful to use-I just like to look at it and hold it! I also received a full size Beautiful Color Lash Enhancing mascara in black 01.

Did anyone else get make-up from magazines this month? Did you collect all of the Model Co products from Glamour? I would try but I’m on a cosmetics spending ban for lent!
