Diversity in Beauty and Fashion 2016

diversity black indian asian models elle magazine

Last year in December I went through a year’s worth of magazines that I had bought to catch up on my reading to recap on the trends and to seek inspiration.

One thing I noticed was that towards the end of 2015 and into 2016 there was a real effort to be more diverse in fashion and beauty. There were more darker-skinned beauties on the catwalks, in fashion and beauty features and in advertisements in most of the magazines. There were even diversity features in themselves.

Off-Topic: 2016-2017 Autumn/Winter Fashion Trends

tashas face stylist live fashion show catwalk finale

You might already know that I went to Stylist Live twice this year, once as a standard ticket holder and again as a VIP.  That meant I got to see my favourite part twice – the catwalk show.  Yes, I know a couple of months have passed since Stylist Live 2016 but that has just given me the opportunity to see how Stylist curated their show against what the magazines say the trends are. I’m happy to say that my favourites are still featuring in current editions of magazines!

Handbag Swap Lip Colours April 2015

Handbag Swap Lip Colours April 2015
Handbag Swap Lip Colours April 2015

This post is a little late but I still want to share with you my bag swap moment! I decided that my faithful Mango black patent bag was too large for purpose these days so after a lot of walking around the shops culminating with painful deliberation in Debenhams, I bought cute yellow Jasper Conran bag which I think is perfect for summer (I can only find the blue and black versions on line and I think I want the blue one too!). The purpose was to try to carry less so we’ll see if that works. When I tipped out my Mango bag this is what I found:

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in 07 Nude-ist which is currently my favourite nude

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in 05 Ole flamingo which is my current favourite out of all of my lip colours!

Bourjois Rouge Aqua Laque 07 Fuchsia Perche which I didn’t wear for very long because I just didn’t have the time to re-touch

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Velvet in Burning Lava although I’m not sure why this was in my bag because I haven’t worn it for ages

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Velvet in Orange-ology

Sleek Pout Polish in 958 The Show which is currently my favourite tinted lip balm

So you can see I am sticking with a few favourites at the moment. Let’s see how many make it into my new bag!

Outfit to Match the Face Easter 2015

This Easter I was in a coral mood. I bought a coral dress from Oasis and wore it with my dark coral Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick in 538 Ravishing Rose and brown pointed court shoes.

On the rest of my face I wore:

  • No7 Instant Radiance Foundation in Deeply Honey
  • Clinique all about eyes concealer in 08 Deep Honey
  • Bourjois 1 seconde mascara in black
  • Kiko Make Up Milano Long Lasting Stick Eyeshadow in 06
  • Soap and Glory Smoulder Kohl waterproof eyeliner in Cocoa Bean on the lower lash line and eyebrows (I was in a rush!)
  • Clinique Blushing Blush Powder Blush in 115 Smouldering Plum

Fresh, quick and simple!

OK, so it’s a little late! This outfit goes with the Easy Grey and Black Eyes.  I wore:

  • Lime green oversized short sleeved knitwear from Zara
  • High-waist nylon tricot leggings from American Apparel
  • Killer heeled ankle boots from Betty Jackson Black at Debenhams
  • Spike necklace from Accessorize
  • Large rectangle grey stone cocktail ring from Monsoon
  • Clear sparkly cocktail ring from Dorothy Perkins
  • Large bright green flower ring – possibly from Accessorize – I cant remember!

How would you wear lime green?

The Face USA Episode 2

This is a short post as the focus was on creativity with clothing – the models faced a style challenge.  They had to go head to head with another model and style the same outfit. I love these challenges! They also had to do a shoot for W magazine, the theme being uptown girls vs downtown girls.

I think for uptown I would do pretty in pink (this is a sneaky peek of a post coming soon):

And for downtown I need some edge:

Which is your favourite?

Outfits to Match the Face: December 2013

Outfits to Match the Face: December 2013
Outfits to Match the Face: December 2013

I thought you might like to see how I put my outfits and make-up together.  First, a little explanation about me and clothes –  I wear what suits me no matter the season.  I buy what I like, wear it when I like and wear it several times.  I have stupidly expensive taste but I have bills to pay and they win!

Here are some of the outfits I wore in December and the make-up to match.

1.

Bright yellow AX Paris dress with yellow gems .  It is a strapless and fairly short dress with a floaty overlay which is short at the front and almost down to my ankles at the back. I wore grey Jones Bootmaker platform sandals and carried a pewter Armani Exchange clutch bag.   I wore this for a night out on the King’s Road with Slate and Gold make-up.

2.

Boss Orange cropped sweater in sand and gold with Miss Selfridge high-waisted shorts in sand and FCUK skinny belt in black patent leather with a gold buckle (also with black ribbed tights which are not pictured).  I wore this for a night in with friends and family with Simply Christmas- The Lighter Option make-up.

3.

Hugo Boss white ribbed tank top with Warehouse skirt in metallic black. I can’t remember where the necklace is from! I love my dress jewellery, usually the bigger the better. I tend to buy it from Monsoon, Accessorize, New Look and Oasis.  I carried a teal and gold clutch bag from Accessorize and wore Betty Jackson Black killer heeled ankle boots, all with Hot Pink Party Lips make-up.

As I was choosing the pictures, it occurred to me that this is all shimmer and sparkle.

My work wardrobe is very sensible – black Warehouse suits with TM Lewin shirts in any colour or Hugo Boss shirts in white, sometimes with Duchamp cufflinks.

I think I will do more outfit related make-up posts in 2014, although not necessarily what I wore.   Maybe I’ll draw inspiration from key pieces from my favourite shops.  I’m thinking Net-a-Porter (wishful thinking!), & Other Stories, Bershka, Hugo Boss, French Connection, Warehouse, Mango, Zara, H&M, New Look, Dorothy Perkins to name but a few – a completely random bunch!

What do you think?
