Pat McGrath playtime! I don’t get to play with makeup very often these days, let alone blog about it! I have a very neglected collection of Pat McGrath products which I desperately had to use. There are more in my collection but I think I managed to get a decent selection on my face this time around!
When I saw the new Fenty Beauty Beach Please Summer 2018 collection, I got very excited! The original collection didn’t tempt me to buy anything but the lure of the pink and orange highlighter was irresistible to me! Check out the video:
You might already know that I went to Stylist Live twice this year, once as a standard ticket holder and again as a VIP. That meant I got to see my favourite part twice – the catwalk show. Yes, I know a couple of months have passed since Stylist Live 2016 but that has just given me the opportunity to see how Stylist curated their show against what the magazines say the trends are. I’m happy to say that my favourites are still featuring in current editions of magazines!
My final look in my “Hot Summer Makeup” series is no-makeup makeup. I like this look for melty days because when my makeup starts to fade, it isn’t too obvious. This works best when I’m having a good hair day although that can be difficult in the blazing sun, especially if there is high humidity.
For this look I didn’t photograph what I wore at the time (you’ll that see that all too often on this blog) but I have a good idea.
For my base, primer would be needed in an attempt to keep the makeup in place followed by my Iman Luxury Radiance Makeup in Clay 1 mixed with Lancôme Hydra Zen gel cream moisuriser all over my face including under my eyes. I would have dusted on some Iman Second to None Luminous Foundation in Clay 1 to maintain the dewy look and boost the glow. Plus, I need powder on my T-Zone. I have no real option there.
Eyes were nice and simple – a strong defining line across the top lash line using a waterproof gel eyeliner such as Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink. Waterproof is essential. The line gives the illusion of thicker lashes and works well without mascara if you have black lashes anyway. No mascara for me that day because when it is hot, the pollen count is usually high. You could wear a waterproof mascara or a long lasting mascara such as Benefit They’re Real. I later discovered that my YSL Vinyl Couture mascara in I’m the Clash is quite comfortable to wear, even with my allergies.
Brows must be groomed but kept natural so I probably just combed through some dark brown eye gel such as Benefit Gimme Brow in shade 5. To deposit colour and thicken the brows brush it against the direction of hair growth then to neaten and set brush in the same direction as hair growth.
It leaves the brows naturally filled in and looked after without looking over-groomed. Luckily I’ve never had a brow product slip. I would also use a brow pencil, brow powder or eyeshadow set with clear or brown brow gel although I’m not very good with pencils.
Cheeks had to have that glow so I know I used my Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Nectar across the whole cheek then did a colour pop on the apples of my cheeks with Bobbi Brown blush in Desert Pink.
Finally, I went ultra-nude on my lips using my Maybelline lipstick in Coffee Craze 740, possibly over my Bobbi Brow Lip Liner in Heather or Clarins Lip Liner Pencil in 02 Nude Beige. It also looks like I patted on some Bobbi Brown Crystal Lip Gloss.
