Facebook February on tashasface.com

tasha's face facebook february live

I have declared that this February is “Facebook February”. I was late in setting up my Facebook page, “Tasha’s Face Beauty Blog“, not least because it was just awkward to set up and I couldn’t decide which category to put page in. My content is across several social media platforms but I haven’t been making full use of Facebook.

This month, I want to show Facebook some love. I don’t want to duplicate what I put on my blog or on other platforms. I want to do more. You can already see all of my blog and Instagram posts on it but I want to:

  • Do status updates
  • Share blog posts I’ve written for Brown Beauty Talk
  • Share any blog posts I write for other people
  • Do Facebook Live broadcasts, both planned and impromptu
  • Share posts by other people which I like and think you would like

How does that sound?

I will do a regular Facebook Live chat every Tuesday between 2030 and 2130 GMT except the 28th when I am hoping I’ll be at Keziah Connections so I can broadcast the event (WiFi permitting).

In the first Facebook Live chat on Tuesday 7th February, I’ll be discussing the new-look Glamour Magazine. It promises more beauty and fashion so let’s put that to the test! See you there!

Curly-girls and brown-skinned beauties: why it’s important to see us in magazines

In this post I’ll be commenting on three magazine editions covering fashion and beauty. Some of the looks will be going into my neglected beauty scrapbook. I need a new one and these images would be perfect to start it off.

Grey Hair Needs Bright Lips

I’m really liking this grey hair trend at the moment. Why wait until I’m going naturally grey when I can have it now? The question is, how does this work with non-elderly skin without making it look washed out?

The answer has been showcased by several celebrities – bold and bright lips! Mirina Diamandis wears her grey hair with bright orange or Barbie pink lips (two colours I love) and Lady Gaga wore hers with dark blue glitter lips which is clearly not for the faint-hearted.

I love bright lips so here are the colours I think will go best with grey hair:

Orange – opposites attract!

Illamasqua Flare & MAC Morange

Pastel blue – it’s only a few shades away from grey – take inspiration from Jourdan Dunn

Makeup Revolution Immoral

Pastel pink and purple – I can imagine a grey/pastel pink ombre for lips and hair!

MUA matte lipstick in Lilac Belle and Makeup Revolution lipsticks in Enchant and Depraved

Barbie pink – because it’s fun.

L’Oreal Color Riche Lipstick in 370

Bold purple – grey and purple make a gorgeous combination

Makeup Revolution Atomic Lipsticks on Make It Right and Make Me Magnificent

Hot Pink – hot pink and grey is just, well, hot!

And of course, grey hair looks great with red lips which works for all ages. It will go with all of my shades of red because they are all so bright but I’ve picked out MUA shade 13 for a red crème and Rimmel Apocalips Lips Velvet in Burning Lava for a matte finish:

Will you be rocking grey hair with bright lips this summer?

And my favourite hair tie is…

Popband London, Invisibobble, Scünci black hair elastics
Popband London, Invisibobble, Scünci black hair elastics

…Scünci black hair elastics. I have now compared three types of hair tie and the humble hair elastic is my winner. Ok, so they leave a kink in my hair but I rarely wear my hair straight for it to be a problem. I like my hair to be secured and the price is right.

Second place goes to Popband London. It slightly bothers me that I could make these at home myself (although I doubt I will) so I think they are pricey for what they are, but I do like the designs.

Third place goes to Invisibobble. It’s a fun concept but I really don’t think a telephone cord is completely compatible with curly hair! I find it good for loosely tying my hair while I’m chilling at home but when I wear a ponytail, I like it to feel secure.

Which is your favourite?

Easter Nails

This nail art is incredible – so pretty! I wish I could wear these embellishments without ruining them before the day is over!

The Makeup Honey

First off Happy Easter to all my lovely readers! I hope that everyone has had a great holiday so far and eaten lots of chocolate! It has certainly been a happy Easter in the Makeup Honey household. I recently purchased some nail alloys, also known as nail ornaments and I really wanted to test them out. I had some ideas before they arrived about how well they might function, how easily you can go about day to day business and of course how well do they last. I have to say, my expectations were very very low. However the alloys arrived and I was over come with sparkles and had to try them out immediately. This particular mani you are about to see is my third attempt at using this particular style of nail decoration, I would also say that so far it is also the most successful.

*St Patrick’s Day Nail Art on the Home Shopping Network

The Home Shopping Network contacted me and asked if I would share their St Patrick’s Day Nail Art blog post with you.  I thought I might as well take a look and pick up some tips.

There’s lots of green, which is fine by me. I particularly like the green glitter accent nail so I would put that on all of my nails!  I also like the idea of using a hair pin, otherwise known as a bobby pin, to make dots.

For one of the looks, OPI’s Love Angel Music Baby was used, the gorgeous gold one.  I don’t think we get HSN in the UK and I noticed that this polish is MUCH cheaper over in the USA – maybe I shouldn’t have looked!

If you’re interested in taking a look, the link is here.

Home Shopping Network’s St Patrick’s Day Nails – my favourite is the green glitter!

*I can confirm that I have received no payment or other remuneration for this post.  I have given my honest opinion on a blog that was mentioned to me, and I chose to share it with you.

New Year’s Eve Sparkle & Outfit

Sorry for the delay – I didn’t take any photos on New Year’s Eve (crazy, right?) so I had to recreate the look. The theme was…sparkle!

I’ll start with the clothing:

New Year's Eve Sparkle outfit
New Year’s Eve Sparkle outfit
  • Short black metallic jumper from H&M
  • High waist super skinny black jeans from Dorothy Perkins
  • Black glitter skinny belt from Accessorize
  • Silver and gold long necklace worn doubled up from Oasis
  • Large dark cocktail ring from Monsoon
  • Clear cocktail ring from Dorothy Perkins
  • Betty Jackson Black platform ankle boots (see Outfits to Match the Face: December 2013 here)
  • Black square stud earrings

I went for all black so I could have some fun with my make-up.  As you know from my Red Lips post, I chose one of them and I will reveal it here.

First, here is my face without the glitter and glam:

I’m wearing:

  • YSL La Teint Touche Eclat foundation in 107 Beige
  • Bobbi Brown Illuminating Finish Powder Compact Foundation SPF12 in Golden 6
  • Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Golden under my eyes
  • Sleek Face Contour Kit in Medium 885
  • Kiko Infinity eyeshadow in 204 from my lids to my brows as a base
  • MAC Lip Pencil in Cherry
  • MAC matte lipstick in Ruby Woo
  • MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack to line the top lashline and flick out
  • Lancôme le Crayon Khol in 01 Noir on the waterline
  • HD Brows Palette in Foxy
  • Maybelline the Falsies Volum’ Express Flared mascara in Very Black on top and bottom lashes

I used:

  • EcoTools Flat Foundation brush to apply the YSL foundation
  • EcoTools powder brush to apply my Bobbi Brown foundation
  • Bobbi Brown Cream Blending brush to apply the concealer
  • Models Own angled blush brush to apply the light and dark colours in the Sleek palette to contour my face
  • Models Own blusher brush to blend the contour colours
  • The angled liner on my Bella Pierre dual brush to define my brows in Dark Brown from the HD Brows palette
  • MAC brush 239 to apply the Warm Brown colour from the HD Brows palette to the crease of my eyelids
  • Models Own shading brush to apply the Nude colour from the HD Brows palette under my brows to highlight
  • No7 eyeshadow and blending brush to blend the colour in the crease
  • No7 eyeshadow brush to apply the Kiko eyeshadow
  • MAC brush 209 to apply the Fluidline

Then I added

  • Bourjois Effet 3D Gloss in 18 Transparent using my fingers
  • The dark grey glitter from the MUA Luxe glitter palette in Diva using my Ruby & Millie angled eye brush (no longer available), all over the Fluidline

To look like this:

Unfortunately, although I really like this look, it was not successful! The lipstick did not like the gloss and it went all smudgy, even when I dabbed on the tiniest amount of gloss.  I had to do matte lips for the rest of the night. Worse, the glitter is not party proof.  The house party I went to was great and I love nothing more than to dance. I danced hard and my make-up failed – I ended up with glitter everywhere and looked awful!  I gave this glitter a last chance and it disappointed me.

I should have stopped at the first face as this would have been dance proof. Oh well, you live and learn!

I wore this on my birthday to go with a yellow dress.  I don’t have an in-focus full-face photo with my eyes open. The focus should be on the eyes anyway!

The key products are:

  • The lighter gold colour from my Lancôme Palette Liberte 01 Indigo Royante eyeshadow palette
  • The shimmery dark grey/nearly black colour from my Sleek eyeshadow palette in Original 594
  • Lancome Le Crayon Khol in 01 Noir
  • Bobbi Brown Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening Mascara in Black
  • MAC brush 239
  • MAC brush 219
  • The darker colours in the Seventeen Instant Glow Shimmer Brick in Gold Bronze
  • Bobbi Brown lip liner in Cocoa
  • Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Cocoa 31
  • Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss in Nude 8

This is a great party look – perfect for New Year’s Eve!
