I created this look because I wanted to try out my new silver liquid eyeliner from e.l.f. As you can see, it is very bright!

Base

No7 Instant Radiance Foundation in Deeply Honey applied with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush.

Clinique All About Eyes Concealer in 08 Deep Honey applied with my fingers to cover my under eye dark circles.

A dusting of Bare Minerals foundation in Golden Tan to take away the shine on my nose using my Bare Minerals flawless face brush.

Eyes

I applied the brown highlighter colour (the large rectangle) in my Makeup Revolution Make Believe eyeshadow palette all over the lid up to my brows using my Teez flat stiff brush. I then lined my upper lash line using my e.l.f. liquid eyeliner in silver. I needed 2-3 coats to get a smooth line. I applied one coat of Givenchy Phenomen’eyes mascara in 1 Deep Black to my upper lashes. I then used my Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in 1 Black Ink on my lower lash line using my Bobbi Brown mini ultra fine eye liner brush and Eye of Horus goddess smokey eye pencil in black along my lower waterline. I wasn’t initially going to wear black eyeliner but my eyes needed some definition on the lower half to balance the top half.

Brows

I applied the clear wax using the included brush then used the angled side of the brush to apply the dark brown colour to my brows to fill them in. It wasn’t dark enough so I lightly went over the brown using the black shade (black is too dark, even for my black eyebrows).

Lips and cheeks

Deciding what to do with my lips and cheeks was tricky. As you might have seen from my Instagram photo, I went through several options. At first I thought I would go for a nude lip so my lips weren’t in competition with my eyes but I just looked washed out. I decided on Maybelline lipstick in Ravishing Rose as although it is an orange-red colour, it has a gentleness to it which makes it work. I then brushed the bronze colour in my Sleek Face Form palette in Medium 374 on to my cheeks and blended out using my Models Own Powder Brush.

To finish I set my makeup with my Kiko Face Makeup fixer.

Barry M Nail Paint in Moonlight over OPI Push and Shove

Barry M Nail Paint in Moonlight over OPI Push and Shove
Barry M Nail Paint in Moonlight over OPI Push and Shove

Barry M Nail Paint in Moonlight is so bright and bold I just had to turn up the drama and try it over OPI Push and Shove from the 2013 Gwen Stefani collection.

Moonlight is a silver glitter topcoat made up of silver stars, tiny silver circles of different sizes, silver rectangle pieces like tinsel, medium sized silver hexagonal pieces and the odd piece of randomly shaped red glitter which resembles torn papers. (See it over red here).

OPI Push and Shove is a silver chrome shade so you can tell I was really going for the “look at me” effect. I naughtily did not use the designated base coat which came with it – Lay Down That Base so it painted on a little lumpy. You can’t tell however as so much is going on with Moonlight – something I love about glitter. Glitter polishes hide a multitude of nail issues!

It’s so difficult to capture the effect of glitter over chrome in a photo. The smaller silver pieces of glitter add texture, the stars and the hexagons are holographic so they give flashes of rainbow in certain light and the red pieces of glitter randomly scattered on my nails add that little bit extra to make my nails look even more special. The chrome base colour makes the whole look quite spectacular.

All of this is achieved with only two bottles of polish and minimal effort. Who would have thought that it would be so easy to get such dramatic nails?

If you cannot get hold of Push and Shove anymore, you might be able to get the same effect using the Barry M Nail Effects Foils in Silver 319. I haven’t yet tried the Barry M foils but if you have I would love to see it!

Barry M Nail Paint in Moonlight 439 is a limited edition glitter topcoat that I picked up from Boots. This little bottle packs in so much – I couldn’t decide which base colour to use so I tried it over two.

Moonlight is mainly silver glitter made up of silver stars, tiny silver circles of different sizes, silver rectangle pieces like tinsel, medium sized silver hexagonal pieces and the odd piece of randomly shaped red glitter which resembles torn papers. In certain light I’m sure the hexagons and stars a holographic. In all it’s very Christmassy!

I first tried this over OPI Nail Lacquer in Red Fingers & Mistletoes, a deep red nail polish with what looks like red and gold micro glitter which gives off a deep three-dimensional shimmer rather than a chunky glitter effect.

The smaller Moonlight particles paint on quite easily but a little bit of dabbing was needed to deposit the stars and hexagons. The silver bits come up nice and bold against the red but the red pieces cannot be seen at all.

Overall, the effect is multi-dimensional with the depth of the red underneath and the variety of different shaped glitter on top. This is definitely not for the faint-hearted!

Yes, it is possible to do both eyes and lips! This was Devyn’s look from episode 1 of The Face USA.  The trick here is to tone down the silver with black eyeliner.

Face

  • Bobbi Brown Illuminating Finish Powder Compact Foundation SPF12 in Golden 6
  • No7 Natural Blush Tint Powder in Spice

Eyes

  • KIKO Pearly Eye Base – this is important to make metallic colours really pop
  • No7 Limited Edition silver eyeshadow – any bright silver/white silver (as opposed to grey) will work.  I applied this over my lids only using my e.l.f. Studio Eyeshadow “C” Brush
  • MAC Expensive Pink Veluxe Pearl eyeshadow applied in the crease and just above using my Ruby & Millie Eye brush
  • KIKO Infinity eyeshadow applied over the MAC eyeshadow and up to the brows using my Ruby & Millie Eye brush
  • The shimmery dark taupe from my Ruby & Mille Natural Eyes palette applied under the arch of my brows – this is no longer available.  In fact, I’ve had it for years and only just opened it today. It is my second one and the colours inside make the perfect daytime eye wear!
  • Soap & Glory Smoulder Khol in Superblack on the lower waterline, lower lashline and upper lashline as a continuous outline as close to the lashes as possible.
  • I blended the eyeliner with my Ruby & Millie Eye brush on the top lashes and my Ruby & Mille smudge tool on the lower lashline to make the line less harsh.
  • The dark brown colour from the HD Brows Foxy palette to define my brows using the angled brush on my Bella Pierre dual brush
  • Bobbi Brown Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening Mascara in Black

Lips

  • Barry M lip pencil in No.2 to intensify the lip colour
  • Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in 010 Raspberry Pie

January Sales Spree – Seventeen and OPI

I tried not to buy any nail colour but I failed! I have now run out of space in my box of nail colours so I need to find a new home. Worse still, when am I going to wear them all?  I’ll be introducing you to my collection pre-spree over the next few weeks.

On my first trip to Boots after Christmas I saw this for £6 but was strong and walked past it- I really don’t need any more nail polish.  Then Ginger Loves Make-Up snapped it up and made me wish I bought it but I resigned myself to the fact that I lost my chance, as surely everyone else would have taken up the offer of 9 polishes for £6 – yes, about 67p each for pretty decent polishes!   I was wrong.

The next time I saw this I bought it!  I now have a range of colours and effects:

Lasting Fix in Pretty in Peach – pearlescent pink-peach

Quicker Slicker Fury – like molten gold

Quicker Slicker Navy Glint – sparkly dark blue

Quicker Slicker Peacock- a spectacular metallic turquoise

Quicker Slicker Ruby Gem – dark red

Quicker Slicker Moonstruck – silver (ahh, I already have this but the new bottle is nicer!)

Supreme Shine Love – purple pink – almost orchid!

Supreme Shine Wicked – metallic purple

Supreme Shine Risky Red – hot red

I really like the look of Fury and Peacock!

OPI

Whilst buying hair products from Look Fantastic, I needed to bump my basket total up to £60 to get some free Cowshed goodies so I bought this OPI polish in Every Month is Oktoberfest from the Germany Collection. My first thoughts are that the colour was much more purple on the website – this looks very red! I hope it comes out purple but OPI tends to stay true to what you see in the bottle. Interesting!

I’m not sure I’ll get around to wearing all of these, plus the ones I already have. I guess you have to wait and see!

I wanted to create a simple, bright, fresh look to counteract how winter makes me feel!

To get glowing skin, first I applied my Bobbi Brown corrector in Dark Bisque to colour correct the darkness under my eyes using my Bobbi Brown cream blending brush.  I then applied YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat in B70 all over my face including under my eyes using my EcoTools foundation brush and set this with a light dusting of Bobbi Brown Illuminating Finish Powder Compact Foundation SPF12 in Golden 6 using my EcoTools powder brush.

I defined my brows using Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Mahogany 10 and the angled brush on my Bella Pierre dual brush.

I lined the top lashline with my Lancôme Le Crayon Khol in 025 Silver.  This silver is more grey than white so it is dark enough to line the eyes but the metallic effect lifts and highlights the eyes.

I then applied two coats of Bobbi Brown Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening Mascara in Black to my top lashes and one coat to my bottom lashes to really open up my eyes.  There’s no eyeliner on the bottom lashline or waterline as this would make my eyes look dark.

I used Bobbi Brown blush on my cheeks in Desert Pink 18, an uplifting and very girly pink, applied with my No7 blusher brush.  Carrying on the pretty pink, I used Max Factor Color Elixir lipstick in Rosewood 833 followed by Revlon Colorbrust lipgloss in Sunbaked.

Comment: The Face USA Episode 2

The Face USA Episode 2
The Face USA Episode 2

This is a short post as the focus was on creativity with clothing – the models faced a style challenge.  They had to go head to head with another model and style the same outfit. I love these challenges! They also had to do a shoot for W magazine, the theme being uptown girls vs downtown girls.

I think for uptown I would do pretty in pink (this is a sneaky peek of a post coming soon):

And for downtown I need some edge:

Which is your favourite?
