#3GiftsChallenge | Christmas 2018

This year I agreed to take part in the #3GiftsChallenge. This campaign was launched in 2017 by Nicola Lespeare and it encourages us to purchase a Christmas gift from 3 different black-owned businesses. Nicola Lespeare is a black-owned stationery business and I have purchased from her myself. The recipients were very pleased with their cards!

Nicola invited me to highlight three black-owned brands and I have chosen three British businesses that I would love to receive gifts from!

Latticia Organics

I came across Latticia Organics in a Nicola Lespeare newsletter and I decided to try a sample-sized version of the Whipped Shea Souffle, which was released in June this year. It costs £7.95 plus postage and packaging. I used a discount code from the newsletter so the total came to just over £10.

The Whipped Shea Souffle I purchased comes in a glass jar with a golden lid and the larger version looks like it comes in a golden tin, which are both pretty. On opening, I immediately smelled the geranium and lemongrass but it was not too overpowering. The best part comes when you dip your finger in. The Fair Trade shea butter formulation has been whipped up into a deliciously light mousse so you can hear (and feel) the air bubbles popping as you take the product out. On massaging into the skin, it melts into a light oil which is readily absorbed and sufficient to moisturise my parched skin for the whole day. The warmth of my skin emphasises the lemongrass scent so it’s delightfully refreshing. I think this would make the perfect gift because it beautifully triggers the sound, sight, hearing, and touch senses which is bound to create a lasting Christmas memory.

The Whipped Shea Souffle 2.0 is available from latticiaorganics.co.uk in two sizes and it can be purchased on its own or in a gift set with a candle with prices ranging from £7.95 to £45. Latticia Organics is also on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Anita Grant

Anita Grant is a skincare, haircare and mineral makeup brand. The range of products has changed over the years but my favourites are still available.

I first tried Anita Grant’s Hello Beautiful Mineral Eye Shadows in 2015 when I won a competition. I was very impressed so this year I purchased a couple more. They don’t always look like the colour in the pot once applied to the lids and for some this this a nightmare but for me it added to the fun. I have reviewed 8 of the eyeshadow shades and you can see what they look like by searching for “anita grant” at the bottom of this page.

The eyeshadows are beautifully hi-shine, highly pigmented and easily blended and can be combined to make even more shades. I think these qualities would also make them great highlighters although I have yet to try that. The versatility, quality and ease of use would make a beauty lover very happy.

The eyeshadows come in a cylindrical cardboard box so are already gift wrapped and contain a huge 1.5g! You could fit two eyeshadows in one box or pop a chocolate in there to make the gift extra special.

My favourite Anita Grant skincare product is the Organic Rose Water. It smells delicious and gives me happy skin. I use it to hydrate, tone, and refresh my dry skin. No other rose water will do! Rose water has many other uses too so your recipient is bound to love it.

Anita Grant is available from anitagrant.com and is also on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. The Hello Beautiful Mineral Eye Shadows cost £6.60 for 1.5g and the Organic Rose Water costs £4.30 for 30ml and £13.15 for 100ml.

Carron Cosmetics

Carron Cosmetics was founded by Carron, a makeup-artist and makeup industry veteran of 35 years. Unfortunately she tragically passed away earlier this year but her legacy lives on.

I reviewed a range of Carron Cosmetics products for Brown Beauty Talk and I have a list of favourites which will soon live in my makeup collection! The lipsticks are brilliantly pigmented and last well so if you know which shade to buy, they would be a great gift.

However, as lipstick is very personal and easy to get wrong, I would say the Loose Shimmer Powder would make a better gift. I reviewed the Deep Bronze (SHI 04) shade for Brown Beauty Talk and it would make a gorgeous bronzer, blusher or highlighter, depending on the recipient’s skin tone. In other words, I don’t think you can go wrong! There are three other shades to choose from which I am yet to try but as the shimmery formula is highly pigmented, easy to blend and silky-smooth, I’d be happy to receive any of them.

Carron Cosmetics is available from carroncosmetics.com and is also on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. The Loose Shimmer Powder costs £17.50 for 7.5g.

I have not received payment for this collaboration however Nicola Lespeare has offered products from her website in exchange for this post. I had control over which products/brands to feature, none of which are sold by Nicola Lespeare.
