Hot summer days bring a makeup dilemma. Do I not wear makeup and look underdressed and probably tired? Or do I wear makeup and be uncomfortable all day and look like a melted mess by the evening?
I’ve tried a few options and here’s one of them.
The first was to wear an adjusted version of my summer full face. As always, the key is to get the base right so I started with toner, serum, eye cream, moisturiser and primer with SPF.
I need some sort of coverage on my face but even my Iman Luxury Radiance Liquid Makeup felt too heavy. I mixed it with equal parts of my LancÓme Hydra-Zen gel-creme moisturiser to get the same shade but a lighter coverage. I just needed it to even out my skin tone a little. I applied this with my Real Techniques buffing brush all over my face, including under my eyes.
Brows need to be long-lasting and bold. I’ve never had my brows smudge or fail me in hot weather but to make sure, I sealed the brow powder in with clear brow gel – Benefit Ready, Set, BROW!
To work with rather than against the sunlight, I dotted some Givenchy Mister Light highlighterĀ in shade 5 all over the high points of my face and blended with my fingers.
For my cheeks, I decided that cream blush would be best as powder blush would look too flat and be too obvious when my makeup started melting! I used the pink shade in the Sleek Blush by 3 in Californ.I.A. (no longer available) and my Real Techniques miracle complexion sponge.
For my lips, my Urban Decay lip liner in Firebird was the only option. Bold, fun and long-lasting. I topped this with Fashion Fair Lipstick in Chocolate Raspberry.
To finish, lightly dusted Iman Second to None Luminous Foundation in Clay 1 all over my face to seal in the liquid using my Real Techniques duo-fiber face brush.Ā Ā You might think that was a strange move but rather than looking matte, the reflective formula added a glow so enhanced the look.
I go for bold lips and brows in hot weather because they frame my face and stay put (with lip touch-ups) when everything else has melted away. In the middle I’ll be wearing glasses so eye makeup is not so important.
I’ll do another blog post on other options and you’ll find my top tops for keeping your makeup-cool in the heat in my previous post.
