This year I attended the Afro Hair & Beauty Live Show 2016. The show has been running for 35 years! It always features lots of hair and beauty products with live entertainment throughout on the main stage and you can attend seminars, all included in the price on the ticket. For the stage shows and seminars, it’s a matter of first come first served- no prior booking required.
If you don’t manage to get a seat around the stage, you can stand and watch or even get a birds-eye view from the balcony of the Business Design Centre in Angel, Islington. I caught most of one of the fashion shows which I Periscoped but the WiFi signal wasn’t great so I don’t think you could see much at the other end. Modern technology – it’s nearly there!

I attended for the first time last year and just wandered around seeing what was available, had my hair restyled and indulged in some retail therapy. Brands tend to have discounts or generous gifts with purchase so I simply had to!
This year I went with set goals. I wanted to check out new beauty brands, both new to me and new in general. I was also looking for natural shea oil to use in my baby’s thick, dry and curly hair. I actually bought more than that (including a Caribbean cook book) but I’ll do another post covering that in case you missed my Snapchat.
I also wanted to attend a talk by Dr Clare Anyiam-Osigwe of Premae Skincare. In fact, I decided in advance that it would be the highlight of my day so I made sure I was the first person to arrive. I’ll write a separate post on that.
Instead of getting my hair done I got a lipover at the Pauline Briscoe stand. She is a makeup artist who had a stand there for the first time and I hope it was not the last. It was very popular which is not surprising when you could get a full face of make-up from a member of her team (or even Pauline herself) for less than £20! It almost made me wish I didn’t apply my own make-up. I got my lips redone because my lip colour had worn off and I decided I needed a spot of pampering.

I think you get a better feel for the show in pictures and videos so here you go:

Did you attend? What did you get up to? If you blogged about it, post your link below!

Yep I went this year too. And like you I was also looking for ‘friendly’ ingredients. I didn’t succeed though…
