So here’s my third and final post on the Bel Age Anti-Ageing Show (the others are here and here). One of the best things about going to shows is that you can discover new brands and find out more about existing brands. The people on the stands will have good product knowledge, can offer advice and for smaller brands, you might even get to meet the founders/makers!
At Lancôme, I was asked what my skin concerns are. I don’t think I have any huge problems – dry cheeks, oily nose, dullness in winter. I was advised to exfoliate, which I hadn’t bothered to do for some time. Exfoliating has several advantages:
- It sloughs off dead skin cells and other things that have gathered on the skin to reveal the newer, fresher skin underneath;
- skin will look brighter because the old, dead layer has been removed, and
- it helps to balance out oiliness.
I seems that missing out one simple step in my skincare routine has led to increased issues with my skin. Exfoliation is firmly back on the agenda!
I was also advised to try serum and I do use serum on an irregular basis. I can tell the difference when I do use it. I was given a couple of samples of Lancome Advanced Genefique so I’ll let you know how that goes.
At the Linea Clinic, after my skin scan showed less than desirable results, I was advised that my skin needs hydration, not oil and that I should cleanse in the evening only. That’s quite an adjustment. I like the feeling of freshly cleansed skin in the morning. After that, I went back to Lancôme to buy the oil-free Hydra Zen Anti-Stress Moisturising Cream-Gel.
At some point during the day I was advised to avoid moisturising my oily nose. Serum was ok but anything else would only make the oiliness worse. I’ve been trying that and I have seen a difference.
Another great thing about show is that there are usually discounts on the products. Lancôme was offering 10% off and a free full-size Exfoliance Confort Smoothing Exfoliating Cream. Elemis had an incredible offer which I wish I took advantage of; the Pro-Collagen Marine Cream Ultra-Rich day cream and Pro-Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream for £40. Yes £40! The set is £99 on the Elemis website which is still pretty good as separately they are worth £175!
I was interested in a couple of brands that were new to me. I met the owner of Terre Verdi and we had a chat about the organic and natural ingredients and the Sicilian landscape that inspired the range. The one ingredient that stood out to me was the orange oil in the OrangeCoffee Cleansing Mask, especially the Argan Shea Multi Cream. The products felt and smelled gorgeous. This is a brand I’d like to try properly.
I also visited Bionix London, a brand which is based on marine ingredients. I’d not really thought about the beauty aspect of using seaweed but at the show I saw it twice. I was impressed with the Ocean Aroma serum (I think I tried the Marine Vitamin C Rich Serum) and the Ocean Aroma Dual Action Tinted Moisturizer SPF45. I’ve got a sample of the Ocean Aroma Refreshing Marine Cleanser. I’ll try that out and let you know what I think.
As you can see, there’s a lot to take in – so much advice (and so many discoveries to be made. I have opened my eyes to products with essential oils and marine ingredients!
