I want to start off by saying that I love the bottles that Black|Up primers come in. To me they look like glass raindrops – so pretty!
This Black|Up SPF 25 Protective Primer is difficult to review. Yes it gives a smooth base to apply my foundation. No it does not matify on me, but my nose is so oily these days I doubt there is a way to control the shine. The reason it is difficult to review: how do I test whether my skin was adequately protected? There hasn’t been any sun for a start and if there was, I am not prepared to risk burning myself to prove the SPF works (or doesn’t for that matter)!
The thing is, I like it and I’ll tell you why.
It is light and easily absorbed without being sticky where other sun protection would sit on my skin and leave it tacky. It is blends into my skin nicely leaving it looking almost as if I am not wearing anything – it gives a natural matte look with a velvet-feeling whereas other SPFs make me look and feel greasy. On application it feels moisturising and cooling unlike other SPF-containing skincare which feel heavy and warm. The best thing is, and this is the most important part, it doesn’t leave a white mask on my skin.
Black|Up know their market. Dark skin needs protecting from the sun too but the products I have tried in the past are too heavy and worse, give my skin a ghostly appearance (especially with higher SPFs). I now finally have sun protection tailored to my skin that doesn’t make me look odd. This is what I have been waiting for and this is why I love this primer. As I said before the oil on my T-Zone is getting out of hand so although I’ll still need a matifying primer there, I will wear this under make-up or even on its own (just because I can) to protect my skin from the harmful effects of the sun.
