Since my first post about my time at Keziah Connections, you might think I have not returned. This is definitely not the case! I love meeting new people who have similar interests to me. I love it even more when that interest is beauty. Here’s a few snippets in case you’re thinking about joining me at some point. As you can see, we talk about more than beauty – business, fashion, media and Black History Month have all featured.
September 2015 – Nubian Skin
Nubian Skin creates skin-coloured tights for women of colour. We definitely need that! At this event we learned how Ade created her product and brand and how she overcame obstacles along the way. There were lots, especially as it is an international business. Although this event didn’t have a beauty focus, we received nail polish and hand cream from Crabtree and Evelyn. I love C&E nail polish!

October 2015 – Fashion Fair & Black History Month
October is Black History Month in the UK. We heard an incredibly inspiring history of Fashion Fair from Connie Jackson, the General Manager for UK and Europe.
Eunice W Johnson was the creator of the Ebony Fashion Fair Show, the same Ebony as the magazine. Models in the show had to mix their own foundations because foundations for black skin were not readily available (if at all). Mrs Johnson approached cosmetics manufacturers to make the shades that the models needed but that came to nothing. So, Mr and Mrs Johnson created their own line called Fashion Fair! The part that really touched me was that this happened during the aftermath of the segregation era. I cannot imagine what life was like then but it is a testament to the Johnson’s work ethic.

You might like to know that Connie’s desert island products are the stick foundation and the concealer! I’d like to try the stick foundation.

As well as trying the products and eating too many delicious cupcakes, we also received a very generous goodie bag.

November 2015 – ORS Europe
The next Keziah Connections was in conjunction with ORS Haircare Europe and the last event of the year. As a teenager I used the Olive Oil moisturiser (hair creme) and glosser (high-shine serum) but my hair changed and they were no longer suitable so I was looking forward to seeing what other products were available. It turns out the most appropriate ORS brand for my fine curls is Curls Unleashed. I was also pleased to discover that ORS also have a range of oils such as black seed oil. This is great as I can make an oil blend tailored just for me.
