I had an exhausting bank holiday weekend, first BeautyCon London 2015 then the Afro Hair and Beauty Show Live!
The Afro Hair and Beauty Show Live used to be a trade show for hairstylists but it has grown into much more. There were live demonstrations (I volunteered for one which I’ll write about in a later post), entertaining stage shows throughout, loads of free samples with purchases and free samples without purchases. Of course, there were many stands to stock up on hair care and styling products, wigs and hair for weaves. Electrical styling goods were also for sale as well as clothing and jewellery and make-up for black skin at special show prices.
The Afro Hair and Beauty Show is spread over two days and I went on the second day. I saw the battle of the barbers, where barbers had to cut and style afro hair in the most unique way possible under a twenty minute time limit. My pictures aren’t great because I lost my vantage point due to needing to find a place to sit and rest but I’ll see if I can salvage some and do a separate post. The previous day there was an avant garde competition which looked like it involved styling women’s hair into beautiful but completely impractical art!
I was periscoping, instagraming and tweeting on the day whilst my battery allowed but if you missed that, here are some photos of the event so you can gain a feel for the atmosphere on the day. It was so much fun I want to go back in 2016.
