Beauty Scrapbook: Skincare Ingredients, Cleansing and Skincare Routines from InStyle Magazine

In the May 2015 edition of InStyle magazine I spotted some essentials for my beauty scrapbook. It’s not often that skincare makes it into the scrapbook, as there’s nothing creative about cream but I really need these pages for future reference.

Packed on to one page is an explanation of those skincare ingredients that are highlighted as being the must-haves, eye creams and advice from Nichola Joss on skincare.

I really didn’t know what Hyaluronic Acid, Resveratrol, or Retinol were before I read the page. I had an idea about Vitamin C and Collagen-Boosting Peptides. All five of them seem good for skin, mainly to do with skin repair, hydration and plumping. Ideally I want one product with them all! Until I find one, I now have a handy little guide as to the individual products I can get to take care of my skin.

Nichola Joss’s skincare routine sets out the order of applying products. Whilst I was familiar with that, I wasn’t aware that serum needs a good while to sink in before moisturiser is applied on top. Looks like I really need to make my serums work (when I bother to use them!)

Another page I tore out gives summer alternatives to our winter moisturisers and a guide on how to cleanse properly. I am continually trying new moisturisers so this might help me out.

Did you know cleansing needed four steps? To be honest, I really don’t have the time and I don’t think scrubbing my dry skin to within an inch of its life is that healthy. In a nutshell, the advised cleansing regime is: oil cleanser, rinse using a muslin cloth, wash-off cleanser then micellar water. For me, I think a good compromise would be three steps – I’d miss out the second cleanse with the wash-off cleanser. When I use an oil cleanser I rinse and gently exfoliate with a muslin cloth anyway. Sometimes a little makeup is left around my eyes so that’s where the micellar water will come in to finish off the job.

There you have it, the latest addition to my beauty scrapbook.
