The secret to all-day makeup is in the preparation. Just like building foundations for a house, we need a good foundation for our makeup. That said, I rarely follow my own rules through lack of time but when I do bother to prepare properly, the effort is worth it!
I gave this combination a go and my make-up lasted around 12 hours (yes, it was a very long day!):
Face – Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer
Strictly speaking this is a skin product so I’ll post a review on the skincare blog. I used this all over my face except the eye area, applying it with my hands like a moisturiser. Primer is supposed to keep make-up in place and some keep oil at bay. Primers also smooth out the skin to which makes foundation application easier and less product can be used. Some oil did get through on my nose after a while but I only needed to powder once. I think that’s pretty good!
Eyes – Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Original
I used a sample I received with my Urban Decay Naked Palette. It claims to give 24 hour staying power however did not test it to this extent! As the name suggests, it keeps eyeshadow in place. It certainly held my eyeshadow in place and once it got to the evening, you couldn’t tell that I had been wearing my eyeshadow all day.
Lips – Kiko Invisible Lip Liner Primer
I used this clear lip liner as I was wearing MAC Morange lipstick which is a bold orange colour. Just like with red lipstick, the colour can bleed. Unlike with red lipstick, it is difficult to find a lip pencil to match. This pencil certainly stopped the colour from bleeding and making me look like a smudgy mess!
Final touches – Kiko Face Make Up Fixer
I wanted to doubly make sure my make-up did not move all day, especially after I put in the hard work contouring! I sprayed my face with this and it worked. My make-up did not move which was all I wanted.
I can not live without my primer. I have very oily skin, so wearing a primer really helps me out.
