Review: Soap & Glory Smoulder Kohl in Superblack, Cocoa Bean, Aquabat, Blue My Mind and Grapevine

IMG_8758_web

I bought these Soap & Glory Smoulder Khol waterproof eyeliner pencils in the December sales. As with most things I buy, it has taken me a while to use these! They came as part of the Crazy Sexy Kohl set which is no longer available however you can still buy Superblack and Cocoa Bean separately for £5 each. I usually thought of Soap & Glory as a skincare brand but I took the plunge and decided to try out the make-up.
In this first picture I am wearing Aquabat, a beautiful metallic green in the inner corners of my eye and to line the rest of my lashline on the top and bottom I am wearing Cocoa Bean, a dark matte grey-brown. I think green will always go well with brown eyes and Aquabat is great for an instant pop of colour to perk up my face. When it comes to brown eyes, brown skin and black eyelashes, brown can be a problem but Cocoa Bean is actually perfect! It is dark enough to show up on my, aided by the fact it is has a grey undertone rather than a red or orange. It is a brilliant daytime alternative to black – it gives the impression of fuller lashes and lines well without looking too dramatic. I literally couldn’t be happier with this shade! Finally, I filled in the rest of my lid and my waterline with Superblack, a very black matte black. The colour is incredibly intense, again I couldn’t ask for more colour wise. Look how dark it is compared with my eyebrows – my eyebrows are black and they have been lightly filled in with Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Mahogany (dark grey-brown).

In the next photo I am wearing Blue My Mind, a dark denim blue along the top lashline and along the lower lashhline I am wearing Grapevine, a dark blue-purple grape soda shade. I have filled in the rest of my lid with Cocoa Bean so you can see that it is dark, but not as dark as Superblack. I am wearing Superblack on the waterline. Blue My Mind actually looks quite bright on me in the daytime and Grapevine looks more subtle. The blue tones of both make a good contrast with brown eyes and they are dark enough for brown skin and black hair.

Now for the technical bit. Only joking! Unfortunately I am not convinced by the waterproof ability. I tried the Superblack on my waterline once for a night out but it really didn’t last long at all. It just disintegrated. However, when I line my upper lashline with Superblack after preparing the lid with a little neutral matte eyeshadow, it stays put all day and into the evening! I find the staying power over eyeshadow incredibly impressive. All of the pencils glide on with ease, delivering an intense hit of colour in an instant.
Overall I am incredibly happy that I bought these. I cannot believe they are only £5 and if you do buy Superblack or Cocoa Bean, there is a sharpener in the lid. I guess this makes up for the fact the metallic are no longer available. I would happily buy all of these again – great performance and great value for money.

There were also eyeshadows in the Crazy Sexy Kohl set – post coming up!

(I’m also wearing Clinique All About Eyes Concealer in Deep Honey, Kiko Makeup Milano Infinity eyeshadow in 204, a matte sand as a base, Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Lash Enhancing Mascara on the top lashes and Oriflame Wonderlash mascara on the bottom lashes. )

I had no idea Soap & Glory sold eyeliners. I usually stay away from brown eyeliners because they’re just not dark enough. I’m not sure if I have access to this here because I’m here in the US. That’s too bad because I’d definitely give it a shot. 😦

Oh no! I just looked on the US version of the website and they only have lip products. Such a shame! I used to stay away from brown eyeliners too but this one is on the grey side so it works. A bit like my mahogany eyeshadow from Bobbi Brown – it’s a grey-brown.
