Hand Review: Hand Creams by Botanics, Cowshed and L’Occitaine

This is really a facial skincare blog however every now and then I’ll tell you about hand and body products I have used.  Here’s my first hand post.

Boots Botanics Soothing Hand Cream

I bought this as I forgot my hand cream and I had a voucher to give me 100 Boots Advantage Card points with the purchase of any Boots Botanics product.  However, the validity of the voucher began the next day! I bought the cream anyway as I needed it and it was reduced, possibly half price.

It was just what I needed – it really did soothe my very dry hands and provide instant relief.  My skin immediately felt relaxed and revived after applying it.  It moisturises for hours, unless you wash your hands or deal with lots of paperwork.

It contains “soothing Iceland moss” along with Shea butter, almond oil and pro-vitamin B5 and other ingredients. I know I like Shea butter and almond oil. I now like Iceland moss!

It has a very gentle scent – I have no idea what it is. I guess it just smells like cream  The consistency is like a thick lotion with a little gel.  I did get through it quite quickly so it’s just as well it was reduced!

I would definitely buy it again as it does what it says on the tube! (I just looked an it’s not on the Boots website. I hope this is a mistake!)

L’Occitane Hand Cream in Subtle Violet

I received this mini cream free with Marie Claire magazine last year. I think it was a limited edition scent.  I don’t like to pay too much for hand cream so I don’t buy L’Occitaine however I know it is good. Actually, this is the best hand cream I have used!  A little goes a long way, it sinks in without a trace and my hands stay hydrated for ages.  It’s thick, creamy and it is completely non-greasy.  I shouldn’t have been surprised that it is so hydrating as it contains 20% Shea butter. As the name suggests, it has a subtle violet scent which I quite like. I don’t like strong smelling skincare as I don’t want any clashes with my perfume. One day I think I will treat myself to a full sized tube of any L’Occitane cream as I know it will last a very long time.

Cowshed Cow Pat Moisturising Hand Cream

The name cheers me up every time I see it! Fear not! This does NOT smell like cow pat. It does however smell masculine and herby with a hint of sharp fruit.  That’s no surprise when you find out it has essential oils of grapefruit and coriander.  This makes a nice change from the perfumed, girly fragrances. When I first used it, I think my skin might have been shocked by all of the essentials oils as it went paper dry.  I should have done the patch test as the tube advises. After that, sometimes I’m fine and sometimes my skin tingles.  I enjoy using it as the scent perks me up in the afternoons, just when I need a boost.   It feels like a very thick lotion.  I don’t find it as moisturising or hydrating as the other two but I’m glad I received it with my lookfantastic.com order.   If you do get this, remember the patch test!

In order of preference with my favourite first:

  1. L’Occitaine Hand Cream in Subtle Violet
  2. Boots Botanics Soothing Hand Cream
  3. Cowshed Cow Pat Moisturising Hand Cream
