The HD Brows Palette in Foxy was one of the products that convinced me to get the Latest in Beauty Glamour Edit Box.
The Foxy palette is advertised as being for brunettes but I say this would be perfect for black hair and all shades of brown skin and black skin. The reason is the 4 colours in the palette:
Nude: the palest colour which I use for highlighting under my eyebrows. If you are paler than me in complexion you could use this as a base for eyeshadow and if you are darker you’ll probably want to avoid it!
Warm brown: This is just a touch too light to use on my black eyebrows. It is the lighter brown colour in the palette. This would be great if you have brown brows and I guess warm brown hair (which I would love to try out myself but I’m scared to dye my hair!). I have used this colour in the creases of my eyes to add depth and I really like it.
Dark Brown: This is my perfect brow shade. In fact, this will be the best shade for most people with black eyebrows like me. I was advised many years ago that even though I have black eyebrows, I should never define my eyebrows in black. I ignored them and did it anyway but it was a bit too bold for daytime. If you have brown lashes, this would look good used with warm brown for multi-dimensional brows!
Carbon: This is basically black. It is the darkest shade I the palette. I did try this on my brows but it was too dark. I might wear this as a party look – rules are made to be broken, right? This would probably look great on those with dark or very dark brown skin and who have black eyebrows. The best part is that no matter what colour your skin and eyebrows are, this is a great eyeliner shade for everyone.
The shades in the palette also make a good smoky eye, for any hair colour and most skin colours.
The formula is interesting. Before I got this palette I always used Bobbi Brown eyeshadow Mahogany 10 and any angled brush I could lay my hands on (soft, medium or firm bristles) to define my brows and I was perfectly happy. The palette contains four powders but the formula feels a bit waxy which took some getting used to. Sometimes it was difficult to apply as it crumbled on my brows! It is very soft and crumbly which makes me feel like I’m wasting product. I also think the formula is why my warm brown did not survive a trip in my handbag (it crumbled) followed by falling off my desk (it smashed so it is now no more). The mirrored palette with the brush suggests it’s portable but that’s not my experience.
The brush is tiny and I found it difficult to use, especially the flat wide brush. I ended up using my full size angled eyeliner brushes and eyeshadow brushes.
So is this palette just for brunettes? Definitely not – it’s pretty versatile. Am I glad I received it – yes! The shades are perfect for me. Will I buy is again? Not sure. I’m not a fan of the formula. Would I try other HD Brows products? Yes, I like that this specialist brow company is innovating for brows, a very important facial feature!
If you have this palette, I would love to know what you think!
