This look is inspired by Stylist Magazine‘s Trend on Trial where they tried eye pencils in shades of violet. There was a time when the only eye make up I wore was a brightly coloured eye pencil so I thought I would challenge myself and try the Jourdan Dunn eyeshadow look. The great thing about having brown eyes is that I can get away with any colour on my eyes, and I make sure I take full advantage!
As the focus is on the eyes, I didn’t use any foundation, although I would have done if I wanted a flawless look. I swept some Bare Minerals Mineral Veil onto the bridge and tip of my nose using the Flawless Face brush, to lessen the shine. Using my Bobbi Brown concealer brush, I applied Bobbi Brown colour corrector in Dark Bisque and Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Golden underneath my eyes. I then used my Ruby & Millie travel sized blusher brush to apply a little Bobbi Brown loose powder in Pale Yellow.
I don’t have a violet shade in my make-up collection so I blended two colours together. I started with the metallic purple colour in the Sleek Bad Girl 596 eyeshadow palette and applied it using my Ruby & Millie travel sized eyeshadow brush. The brush is slightly firm so I could control the shape. I applied it over the whole upper lid, the crease and just above the crease, extending it out beyond the edge of my eye in a winged shape. I then applied a little of the eyeshadow just underneath the lower lash line, three-quarters of the way using my Ruby & Millie angled eye brush, as this brush is quite soft.
To lighten the colour, I applied the metallic sky blue colour from the Acid 570 Sleek eyeshadow palette over all of the area I had just covered in purple, including under the lower lash line, using the same tools as I used for the purple colour.  I blended the two colours using my Boots No7 eyeshadow brush to make sure I achieved the violet colour I wanted. The brush is soft so great for blending.  To add depth, using my Ruby & Millie eyeshadow brush, I applied another layer of the metallic purple colour to the winged tip and three-quarters along the crease. I extended this just to the beginning of the lower lash line. I blended the colours again using my Boots No7 eyeshadow brush to create a seamless graduation of colour.
To finish on the eyes, I applied one coat of Maybelline Volum’ Express the Falsies mascara in Blackest Black to the top and bottom lashes to open up my eyes. I defined my eyebrows using Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Mahogany 10 and a firm, short bristled angled brush.
I applied a little YSL bronzer and No7 blusher in Honey 20 to my cheeks for a hint of colour and shimmer using my No7 blusher brush.
Finally, for my lips, I lined my lips with Bobbi Brown lip liner in Cocoa and applied Bobbi Brown lip colour in Hot Cocoa 57 straight from the tube.
I think this is a very wearable shade of violet. I wonder if I can get away with this during the day…
