This look was inspired by Sky Living‘s “The Face”.  In episode 3 of series one, Team Erin’s girls made their catwalk debut wearing the “Dark Romance” look.  It was all about dark and dramatic but soft eyes, nude lips and precision hair.

I normally wear bright colours but thought I would give this a try, as dark romance seems to be the theme for autumn.

For my base, I used Bobbi Brown Natural Finish Long Lasting foundation SPF15 in Warm Honey 5.5 for my cheeks and nose and Golden 6 for the rest of my face, applied with my Boots No7 foundation brush.  I swept a little Warm Honey foundation under my eyes and over my eyelids.  I used Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Golden (applied with my Bobbi Brown concealer brush) and Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish loose powder in Pale Yellow under my eyes (applied with my Ruby & Millie travel sized blusher brush) once I had finished the rest of my eye make-up.  I did not use any finishing power as I wanted to keep a dewy-skinned look, except for a sweep of Bare Minerals Mineral Veil (using my Bare Minerals Flawless Face brush) on the bridge and tip of my nose to reduce the shine.

For my eyes, I applied black eyeshadow from Sleek eyeshadow palette in Bad Girl 596 in a circular motion with my Ruby & Millie travel sized eyeshadow brush.  I started at the lash line and worked my way out, ensuring that the most intense colour was on the eyelid.  The shape I wanted to achieve was an almost circle around my whole eye. I used the same brush to apply a line of colour underneath the lower lash line.  As this is a romantic look, I used my Boots No7 eyeshadow brush which is a little softer than my Ruby and Millie brush, to blend the eyeshadow outwards and soften the lines, on both my lids and underneath my eyes.  It also helped me to perfect the circular shape I was aiming for.

To finish my eyes, I applied two coats of Maybelline Volum’ Express the Falsies Flared mascara in Blackest Black to my upper eyelashes, and one coat to my lower lashes to open up my eyes.  I lined the lower waterline with Lancôme Le Crayon Khol waterproof in Raisin Noir 01 and lined the top lashline with MAC Fluidline gel eyeliner in Blacktrack, applied with MAC brush 209.

I defined my eyebrows using Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Mahogany 10 using a firm, short bristled, angled brush.

I added a sweep of YSL Terre Saharienne bronzing powder to my cheeks using my No7 blusher brush, to add a little matt shimmer.

For my lips, I applied Bobbi Brown Rich Cocoa lip liner to the whole of my lips, then applied Bobbi Brown Lip Colour in Hot Cocoa 57 straight from the tube.  I then used the same lip liner to define my lip line.

And there you have it, my take on The Face’s dark romance theme, by using a very minimal colour palette.  I would love to know what you think!
